This week we received some great feedback from one of our clients – Roubi L’Roubi, owner of the Huntsman Brand – the bespoke Savile Row tailors for whom we recently created two Huntsman-themed shooting lodges:
“As owners of Huntsman, we are used to our clients commissioning totally bespoke pieces. So when it came to adding two bedrooms to our country house, we thought of a bespoke commission of a legendary airstream, and chose Kathy and the ARC Airstreams team after seeing some photos on the internet of how they’d translated someone’s dream into a rolling room. And we wanted a rolling one bedroom shooting lodge for us. Huntsman specialise in bespoke tweeds to make totally custom shooting suits and other garments, so there was only a short distance to cross to use those as a backdrop for the decor. We specified the function, i.e. we’ll never cook or eat in the Airstream – so no need for kitchen or dining room – but it would need room for a cloakroom where wet clothes brought back from a day’s shooting could be hung to dry. We choose earth tones contrasted with a moorland purple tweeds – emphasising different moods for the two rooms; and let the ARC team come up with suggestions for other wall and floor coverings, wood panelling and built in furniture. We let the team choose those to match or contrast with our tweeds in full trust in their knowhow, and were delighted to receive mood boards by return of mail, much alike those we do when thinking about our collections. We totally took in their suggestions, we then added black forest carvings and antlers to complete the look.
“The experience of designing the airstream together was a wonderful collaboration, and an extension of our bespoke practice into a new territory! We love the Airstreams so much that whereas they started out as extra rooms for guests, they will probably end up touring Scotland with us next summer!”
We are very lucky to have some wonderful clients here at ARC Airstreams. A few weeks ago we were treated to a fantastic day out at Goodwood with Scott McCallum from Avian, courtesy of our corporate Airstream clients Senergy. Here’s a pic of Scott and his son and some of the fabulous vintage racing cars on the track.
In other news, two of our clients are competing in the Clipper Race challenge – Sue Fontannaz of Origin Wine, owner of the Lava Lamp Airstream is on board right now on the Invest Africa yacht with skipper Rich Gould and Scott is participating in a different leg of the challenge later on this year.
We are very proud to have our Weber Exprience Roadshow Airstream featured in this month’s edition of Land Rover World magazine. You can read a taster of the article here but to read the full piece you’ll have to buy the magazine!
In the absence of a huge American truck, we find that most of our customers prefer to use a Land Rover to tow their Airstream with, once they leave our workshop. Here at ARC we use a Land Rover Discovery and many of our customers – such as Dan from Weber – use a Land Rover Defender, as the article explains:
“Originally the ‘Weber Experience’ roadshow was lugged around the country with a Shogun but, as head chef and driver Dan Cooper stated, it just never felt up to the job and a few scary handling moments on long hills made them rethink their towing vehicle options.
“Thankfully they opted for a Defender 110 and even in a totally unmodified form it performs flawlessly. Dan recalls “most of the time you don’t even know you have a massive ‘van like this behind you.”

Last weekend we were invited to a party by one of our lovely Airstream clients and got to meet some of their interesting friends. Here’s a couple of snaps of Kathy with Heston Blumenthal and the lovely Simon Pegg. It’s great to get invited to such exciting parties after all that hard graft in our Airstream workshop here in Somerset.
