Joining us this month is Chris, with his business Retro Retrims. Previously from Birmingham, Chris has fallen in love with a local lass and relocated to Somerset where he has set up his workshop alongside us here in our sunny cider orchard here on the Somerset Levels.
Chris will be working on his own vehicle upholstery projects for his own clients – including Volkswagens, Minis and other post war classic vehicles – and also working on some of our projects too. He has already made a glamorous gold padded cocktail bar for the Dubai Airstream and will also be working on a very exciting new venture which we are launching later this year – watch this space for more details!
At present Chris has his own space at the back of one of our workshops but this is all set to change as we are constructing a new workshop especially for him alongside our current workspace.
You can find out more about Retro Retrims on Chris’ website: www.retroretrims.co.uk
In the ARC workshop today – this vintage 35ft super rare 1952 Vagabond trailer has just arrived at the ARC workshop from the US, ready for a refit with what can only be described as a wonderful Kardashian backside.
In the ARC workshop today, this 1950’s classic Whale Tail Flying Cloud Airstream project is almost ready to go to it’s delighted owner. We’ll be having a photoshoot of the Airstream in the owner’s garden with our expert photographer, Jeremy Phillips: so watch this space for some super glamorous interior shots coming soon!
In the workshop today – this cute little seat has been hand made for the Retro Airstream project – it is now ready to be laminated and upholstered. Come back soon to see more pics!
We were interested to receive this picture via our Facebook page from Pamela Billington Schwartz of Olney Illinois. Pamela recently acquired these two vintage Airstreams in the spring and hopes to have them ready to roll soon. Pamela said she reads our site faithfully for ideas and inspiration and she also has a British connection as her husband spent five years at RAF Upper Heyford during the late sixties and early seventies when he was serving with the US Air Force.
Here’s one of the first Airstreams ever renovated here at ARC. This 1956 Airstream Custom has come in for a quick re-buff to get it shiny for Glastonbury festival.
It’s always exciting when a new project gets underway at the ARC workshop. The next transformation will be turning this 1970s Tradewind into a top class bar.
First step; gutting the interior.
Today we’ve got a few more photos of the bedroom from our photoshoot with the 22ft Airstream Safari. It’s upholstered throughout with overhead storage in real cherrywood veneer and integrated lighting and spotlamp fixtures.
Here are the superb results of another glam finished project photoshoot with our favourite photographer, Jeremy Phillips. This 22ft 1959 Airstream Safari has been refitted throughout and has been a joy to work on for our upholstery team! The design was created by Andrea Chappell and ACME Studios and the interior construction and fit out was of course completed at our workshop in Somerset.
With real cherry wood veneers throughout and bright clean lines this Airstream is now heading off to Scotland where it will be used for family holidays. The feature that sets this Airstream apart from our other projects is the playful egg-shaped hole leading into the master bedroom, which is padded throughout in bright tomato coloured upholstery.
We’ll post some more piccies later in the week!
Today we’ve fished out a few photos from the American Retro Caravans archive, featuring this highly polished Airstream Caravel in a Somerset cider orchard. We just love the way the light shines off the highly polished exterior reflecting the blue September sky and the leaves from the apple trees.
We polish every ARC Airstream inside and out and also offer a polishing service for both vintage and modern Airstreams. You can find out more about the services we offer on our web site
